LIFE EXPECTANCY AND CARDIOVASCULAR MORTALITY IN EUROPE

SEPTEMBER 2019 - VOL.15 | SPECIAL FEATURE

Over the last decades important changes in exposure to risk factors, cardiovascularmorbidity and mortality have taken place in different parts of the world. In thismanuscript we describe the presence of cardiovascular risk and the prevalence ofcardiovascular diseases in Europe. Important differences in risk factors were foundbetween European countries. Cardiovascular mortality rates also show tremendousdifferences among European countries with a striking pattern: much lower cardiovascularmortality rates are observed in Western countries compared with Eastern Europe. Thesedifferences can be partly explained by a greater cardiovascular risk in Eastern Europebut socio-economic factors and the quality of health care also play an important role. Finally the significant changes that have occurred in death due to cardiovasculardiseases and cancer are described and discussed
